<< January 2, 2001 >>After having had a lovely original Chinese dinner at Ling Hong, were we were given 5 newly formatted 2001 calendars with plastic panda bears, we went over to Xs4all... Attending were Johan Vromans, Merijn Brandt, Roberto Bourgonjen, Jan-Pieter Cornet, Eric Veldhuysen, Ann Barcomb, Leo Grapendaal, Abe Timmerman, Remco van Zuijlen and Liz Mattijsen.
YAPC::EUROPE 2001
The first question was from Merijn: when is the YAPC::Europe going to be? Unfortunately, no specific date or venue has been set (although the basic choices now seem to be Amsterdam in the Beurs of Berlage, Maastricht
AMSTERDAM.PM.ORGRoberto mentioned that some static parts of the web-site are only in English (or Dutch) and wondered if they shouldn't be translated. Abe and Leo offered to have a go at that. JP is going to webbify the mailinglist archive and host it on one of XS4all's machines. A link will be placed on the Amsterdam.pm website to incorporate it into that web-site. Roberto hates the list of Perl modules and other "stuff" on the homepage. We agreed with that. Instead of putting this on the homepage, a special links page will be created which will contain those links (and more)... A proposal to let every Perl Monger have a personal page on the Amsterdam.pm web-site, will be first implemented (by Roberto) by using the internal content contributor administration system (and only accessible by registered contributors), which might get a public version in the future.
PERL.NLStill no contact made with the current owners of the perl.nl domain.
PERL 6When is Larry going to come with the Perl 6 specs? Answer: he's working on it, trying to fuse all of the thoughts behind the RFC cycle into a coherent set of (sub_specifications. Other people, most notably Dan Sugalski, are already busy on a much lower level setting up new structures and discussing API's with Perl masters and novices.
Several interesting points were mentioned:
PRESENTATIONS
Amsterdam.pm should organize more talks about specific subjects, one (or more?) to be given at the meetings. The mailinglist should be used to ask for subjects to be handled in these talks. Three subjects already appeared on the roster:
GENERIC CHAOSThe rest of the evening was spent in sub-groups talking about a variety of subjects, ranging from the social to the very technical. I joined them too much to take notes, really.
Shortly after 11 pm we broke up and went our ways.
