AT THE OFFICE OF DIJKMAT
NAME
notes20001107.pod - notes for the Amsterdam Perl Mongers monthly meeting.
PREAMBLE
I arrived early at the Dijkmat office and got a chance to take pictures of the newly arrived toy-camel. Johan turned it into a sort of 'dress-up-barbie' thingy. I took some pictures:
There were eight for dinner, which was entertaining on my side of the table.
SYNOPSIS
Attendees: Liz Matthijssen, Wendy van Dijk, Johan Vroomans, Merijn Brandt, Roberto Bourgonjen, Jan-Pieter Cornet, Eric Veldhuysen, Ann Barcomb, Eric Smith and Abe Timmerman (making these notes).
DESCRIPTION
Frank stopped with the mongers and JP thought that he was responsible for publishing the minits from the last meetings on the Amsterdam.pm.org website.
There should be some thing of an archive of the mailing list. JP hasn't got enough time on his hands to do all the stuff he would like to do. Roberto is going to host the Amsterdam.pm.org? Wendy confesses to not have translated stories from 'Perl Success Stories'. Some confusion about who was going to take action regarding the 'Dutch Perl Success Stories'. After Merijn consulted his notes, Stefan Manschot seems to be the one who suggested a journalist who was going to write the stories. If nothing comes from this, Liz and Wendy suggest asking a journalist friend of theirs to write these stories. Working Groups Internet & Business just died I just missed a quick run over of the working groups. Nothing really to report. [short intermezzo]
Perl6:
[JP] The Larry talk
[JP] perl6 will be build using perl5 [MB] Something about SWITCH statement ( for 5.7 ? )
[JP] Something about Apache (2.0) / mod_perl Something about the efficiency of push/pop vs. shift/unshift. Good explanation by Merijn about the allocation internals... Eric (the FruitMonger) Smith: e-mail / sms gateway. What is the 'Perlest' way to get to the incoming mail and pass them to some sms-thingy. -- a discussion about sendmail and other stuff I don't (want to) understand -- JP has a question about 'persistent objects'. Currently saving objects (data/status?) to a database. [MB] Perl 5.6.1 is expected by the end of the week!!! [MB] Perl 5.7.0 work in progress (lots of things for VMS) Liz has a question on what type of UniCode she should for the internal search engine she is developing. Some discussion on unicode, but the conclusion seems to be that making the dissision to use unicode is the most important step.
We ended the meeting with taking pictures of the group together with the toy-camel (Wendy/Liz?).
